Fibre based communications system
Profitel 2000
Fully integrated, fibre communications & safety system
including Telephony, Video, Control, Data etc
Profitel 2000 is based on 2Mbps optical bus technology and
offers telephone, control, data and video within the same system.
The system is redundant and will be fully operative if the cable
breaks or if one of the telephone units should fail. Optical fibre
is immune to all forms of electrical interference, handles long
distances and offers an outstanding fire resistance compared to
copper cable.
Digital
I/O is connected directly to the telephone unit, which can be used
as a Remote I/O. The costs of copper cable, communication interfaces
and remote I/O is then significally reduced or even eliminated.
External
I/O unit can be connected to the telephone if there are need for
more digital and/or analog I/O.
Data
is available at every telephone unit as two RS485/64Kbps data channels.
These are transparent and can be used for applications like video,
control, monitoring and measurement. New applications are added
simply by installing software drivers.
The
background
Recent accidents and increasing traffic have brought a focus on
safety in tunnels. As a way of significally enhancing safety the
Profitel 2000 Safety System was developed in cooperation with the
Norwegian Public Roads Administration - Hordaland County and SND.
Integration
of data, control and surveillance functions makes the system ideal
for new tunnels as well as upgrading of older tunnels. All in an
easy and economic way.
Fibre
optic bus is beeing used as cabling topology due to outstanding
fire resistance and immunity to all kinds of electrical interference.
Redundancy
is highly important in order to secure operation under critical
conditions. Profitel 2000 is based on a redundant bus structure
which maintains full operability if telephone should fail or cable
break.
System
overview
Profitel 2000 - A fibre optic highway for speech, data, video and
control.
Complete system consisting of :
Controller
The controller has four main functions :
- Telephone exchange
- Control of the fibre optic bus
- OPC Server
- Interface to public network (ISDN)
Telephone
The telephone can operate two 64Kbps data channels at the same
time. One is utilized for speech while the other may be used for
other purposes like measuring equipment, remote controlled signs
and video. Each phone has 8 digital inputs which can be used for
alarm inputs from doors, fire extinguishers and power supplies.
I/O
Unit
The I/O Unit is an extension unit that increases the phone's facilities
for monitoring and control. Capacity is :
-
10 Digital Inputs
- 10 Digital Outputs
- 5 Analog Inputs
